Journal of Higher Veg-ucation: Sissy?

How many times have you heard the term rabbit food used when referring to a vegetarian diet. It's more like Gorilla, Elephant and Rhinoceros food. Walk up to this dude and tell him he eats like a sissy.

Viva!

Check out Viva! It's the Vegetarians International Voice for Animals. It's refreshing to see an activist organization that stays true in the fight. As you may know, other organizations (Peta) speak of animal rights, and yet seem to continuously compromise by using meat eating celebrities in anti-fur campaigns (Naomi Campbell, Eva Mendes), and celebrity vegetarians who wear fur (Tracy Bingham). Campaigning for bigger crates for warehousing; the use of captive bolts to stun; ending debeaking; and higher standards of "living" until slaughtered, for farm animals is ludicrous! These things may seem insignificant to some, but I see them as contradictions and speed bumps to real progress. It seems to me that if you're going to organize and fight to end the suffering of animals and human kind alike, you should at least have a vegan organization!

Greatness

I'm contemplating greatness and how it is manifested in one's life. The question that first comes to mind is of course, how do you define greatness? Instead of reaching for the dictionary, I'll attempt to define it as well as my knowledge and life experience will allow me to. Greatness is most evident where there is intense passion concerning a particular area of interest, be it a philosophical, spiritual, or political ideal. Greatness is not always revealed on a grand scale. It is sometimes demonstrated in common everyday life; a teacher who finds creative ways to inspire students to achieve academic excellence; the so called disadvantaged youth who defies the odds against him/her, and excels in all areas of life; the one who forfeits great fortune for a righteous cause!

Method To The Mod-ness

Style! Ask a thousand people what it means, and you'll likely get a thousand different takes on it. Which is exactly why my definition of style is, "Doing whatever moves you". Of course being a stone cold vegan provides its own hurdles because you can't compromise your principles in your quest to be 'fly'. As we know, doing whatever moves you shouldn't come at the expense of animals. There are friends out there to help you navigate your way through the maze of unethical clothing and personal care product lines. The Discerning Brute is a blog that I recently discovered.
